Guwahati: Two expelled Congress MLAs and one former MLA of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) on Tuesday joined the BJP.

Former Congress legislators Ajanta Neog and Rajdeep Gowala and former MLA of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) Banendra Mushahary joined the BJP party at Assam state BJP office in Guwahati in presence of party’s state president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, state Finance minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sara, Forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya.

Four-time legislator Ajanta Neog and also former cabinet minister in Tarun Gogoi-led government and Lakhipur assembly constituency legislator Rajdeep Gowala met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Dec 26 evening in Guwahati during his three-day visit to Assam and Manipur.

The Congress party on Dec 25 had expelled Ajanta Neog from the party for her anti-party activities.

Ajanta Neog has elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from Golaghat assembly constituency for consecutive three times from 2001.

On the other hand, Congress had expelled Rajdeep Gowala on Oct 9.

Assam Finance minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said Ajanta Neog is considered to be one of the tallest leaders of Assam Congress and her joining will definitely strengthen the BJP party.

“Her vast administrative and political experience will definitely strengthen BJP in Assam. Rajdeep Gowala was the chairman of the public accounts committee and his joining will also strengthen our party,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
