Guwahati, Mar 25 (IBNS) Ahead of the Assembly polls in Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party faces a jolt as United Liberation Front of Asom has accused its leaders of using ULFA cadres for political murders., media reports said.

Paresh Baruah-led Ulfa (I) has hit out at BJP chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal and party leader Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In a statement, the outfit accused Sonowal of using ULFA cadres to kill student leader Saurav Bora in Dibrugarh University in May 1986. The Ulfa  claimed that the political killings were carried out without its leader Baruah's consent.

Sonowal was discharged by Gauhati High Court in the killing of Saurav Bora.

Ulfa (I) also criticised Sonowal for attending an election rally of Bhaskar Sarma, BJP candidate from Margherita constituency and a former member of the insurgent group.

The outfit had accused Sarma of being a traitor and alleged that he was involved in the "secret killings".
