UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to visit India

New Delhi, Sept 21 (IBNS): Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, accompanied by a 6 member delegation, would be visiting India from Oct 1-4, 2018 at the invitation of External Affairs Minister.

Secretary General Guterres would be participating in the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention scheduled to be held at Rashtrapati Bhawan Cultural Centre, New Delhi on Oct 2, 2018, read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.

The event would mark the launch of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations as well as the 4th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

He will also attend the joint inaugural ceremony of the First Assembly of International Solar Alliance (ISA), 2nd RE-INVEST Conference and Energy Ministers Meet of Indian Ocean Rim Association of States (IORA) member countries on the same day in New Delhi.

During the visit, Secretary General would call on Rashtrapatiji and Prime Minister as well as Speaker, Lok Sabha and will hold delegation level talks with EAM.

Both sides are expected to focus on a range of multilateral and regional issues as well as explore ways to strengthen India's growing engagement with the United Nations.
