Sultanpur/UNI/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday landed in a C-130J Super Hercules IAF plane here in Uttar Pradesh and inaugurated the much-awaited Purvanchal Expressway at Karwal Kheri village.

The inauguration program was held near the 3.5-km long airstrip made on the expressway that will witness the landing of fighter jets like Rafale, Sukhoi, Mirage.

Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath along with other dignitaries were present at the function.

The 341-km long expressway from Lucknow to Ghazipur will connect Delhi with Bihar by Yamuna expressway and Agra-Lucknow expressway. Bihar border is just 20km away from the Purvanchal expressway where it ends in Ghazipur.

Modi in July, 2018 had laid the foundation stone of the Purvanchal Expressway and it was completed in record time.

The expressway also has a 3.5-km long airstrip where fighter and other aircrafts can land during emergency.

Purvanchal Expressway will cross through Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur districts.

The new six lane expressway will commence from Chand Sarai village in Lucknow and it was built at a cost of around Rs 23,000 crore, including Rs 1,719 crore given as compensation for acquisition of 1,349 hectares of land from the farmers.

The Purvanchal Expressway starts from village Chaudsarai, district Lucknow located on Lucknow-Sultanpur road (NH-731) and ends at village Hydaria located on National Highway No. 31, 18 km east of UP-Bihar border.

The expressway is 6-lane wide which can be expanded to 8-lane in future.

Constructed at an estimated cost of about Rs 22500 crore, the Purvanchal Expressway is going to give a boost to the economic development of eastern part of Uttar Pradesh especially the districts of Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur.
