Uttar Pradesh: Bank cashier goes missing with Rs 14 lakh in cash
Etawah, Nov 18 (UNI) A cashier at the Bank of Baroda situated at Harshnagar in the Kotwali area of this district took away about 14 lakh rupees from the bank and has gone missing since, police said on Monday.
Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Mishra here said that the Branch Manager has registered a case of embezzlement of about Rs 14 lakh, against the cashier in the Kotwali.
The branch has 16 employees and Santosh Kumar, resident of Shiva Colony of the city, was the cashier at the bank.
As per the report furnished by the bank officials, the cashier left the counter without informing anybody and went missing.
Bank Manager Anil Kumar said that when the cash was counted in the evening, it was found less in number. The cashier was also found putting a bundle of cash in his pocket in the CCTV footage.
Santosh Kumar left the bank without closing the cash counter at around 1830 hrs on the evening of November 15. When he was called and inquired about the same, he said that will come back in ten minutes but did not return.
The cashier is three years away from retirement and the circumstances in which he went missing is yet to be established.
According to the bank employees, he had a pleasant nature towards everyone at the bank and the customers.
