Uttar Pradesh: Lightning leaves five people dead in Kushinagar and Deoria

Five persons were killed and 11 others were injured after being hit by lightning in different parts of Kushinagar and Deoria districts of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, police sources said here.

Police sources said that three women, identified as Subhavati (50), Hasibun Nisha (48) and Manju Devi (50) were killed after being hit by lightning in Panchphera village under Nebua Naurangia police station in Kushinagar district while working in the field in the evening.

Police sources told UNI that similarly two persons were killed and 11 others were injured in different parts of Deoria district.

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Arun Rai said that a teenager Pankaj Yadav (17) was killed and 10 others were injured after being hit by lightning in Haraha village in Rudrapur tehsil.

He said that in a separate incident Sandeep (20) was killed and a woman Maya Devi was injured after being hit by lightning in Bhatpar Rani tehsil.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over loss of lives in the incidents of lightning. He has issued directives to immediately distribute the permissible relief amount to the families of the deceased.

He has expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. The CM has also given directives to provide proper treatment to the people injured by this disaster.
