Uttar Pradesh: Three held for trading fake currency in Prayagraj
Prayagraj, Mar 29 (UNI) Three members of a gang trading fake currency notes were arrested and fake notes of 60,000 rupees and real notes of 14,000 rupees seized from their possession in the Handiya area in this district of Uttar Pradesh, Senior Superintendent of Police Atul Sharma said on Friday.
The SSP here said that persistent action is being undertaken in the district to control crimes and criminals so that the Lok Sabha polls are concluded peacefully.
Information was received that three people seated on two motorcycles under the Bagha over-bridge of the area were talking about the consumption of fake notes.
Taking joint action, the local police and the Crime Branch nabbed the three people after encircling them. Apart from fake currency amounting to 60,000 rupees and real notes of 14,000 rupees, two bikes and mobile phone were seized from them.
The SSP said that 100 fake notes of Rs 100 (10,000) and 100 fake notes of Rs 500 (50,000) while 28 real notes of Rs 500 (14,000) were impounded from the possession of the accused.
The arrested people have been identified as Lachchagrah resident Pawan Kumar and Ashutosh Kumar and Kokar resident Shivchandra Upadhyaya.
The arrested persons said that one Anees, a resident of Bhadohi district's Sanathpur used to provide them with fake notes and they used to collectively circulate them in the market. They were in the same pursuit on Friday when they were arrested.
The accused Shivchandra Upadhyaya had earlier also been sent to jail for trading fake currency.
All the three have been sent to jail.
