Uttar Pradesh: Two arrested for murder of businessman, his wife

Lucknow: Two persons, including a law student, were arrested for murder of a businessman and his wife during an armed robbery in Brahmapuri area of Meerut district here in Uttar Pradesh, a senior officer said here on Saturday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohit Singh Sajwan said that Priyansh Sharma (25), who is a third-year law student, and Yash Sharma (24) have been arrested in connection with murder of businessman Dhan Kumar Jain and his wife Anju Jain.

He said that the arrested accused had admitted the crime and cash along with gold and diamond jewellery looted from Jain's house was recovered from their possession.

"The accused revealed that they were doing recce of the businessman's house for the last two years and were waiting for the right opportunity," he said.

The SSP said that the arrested accused revealed that they took the idea of the robbery from a web series.

"Priyansh took the training to cut the locker and to evade the police from YouTube. To mislead the police, the accused even used a fake registration number on their motorcycle," he said.

Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Meerut Rajiv Sabarwal has announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh along with a citation for the police team which solved the case.

It may be noted that on August 10 businessman Dhan Kumar Jain and his wife Anju Jain were shot during the armed robbery.

While the businessman died on the spot, his wife succumbed to her injuries the next day.
