Uttarakhand: Brick kiln wall collapses, 5 workers buried alive

Dehradun/Roorkee/UNI: Several workers working in a brick kiln feared being buried alive after a wall collapsed in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday, reliable sources said.

Five bodies were retrieved so far, said the sources.

Three of the workers have been rescued and their condition is stated to be critical. The rescue operation is going on.

Sources told that on Tuesday morning, workers were working to fill bricks in the chimney to make a brick kiln when the wall suddenly collapsed.

The incident happened in Lahaboli village of Mangalore Kotwali area of Roorkee region.

All of a sudden, the workers standing near the wall were buried under the debris.

At present, the work of removing debris is going on with JCB machines. Police officers including Superintendent of Police Dehat have reached the spot.

Manglaur police station in-charge Pradeep Bisht said till now five bodies have been recovered.

The condition of three workers is critical and they have been admitted to a hospital.

Among the deceased, three workers were from Lahaboli village, one from Muzaffarnagar and another from a local village.
