Vice President expresses grief over loss of lives in Kanpur train accident
He said that he is deeply grieved and shocked at the tragic loss of life and injuries to passengers resulting from the derailment of the Indore-Patna Express train.
"I am deeply grieved and shocked at the tragic loss of life and injuries to passengers resulting from the derailment of the Indore-Patna Express train that took place at Pukhrayan near Kanpur (U.P.) earlier today," Ansari said in a statement.
"I convey my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families and pray to the Almighty to give them strength and fortitude to withstand this immense loss. I also wish speedy recovery to the injured passengers," he said.
At least 91 people have died and over 150 injured after 14 coaches of the Patna-Indore Express jumped tracks close to Kanpur city in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday early morning, officials said.
The incident took place around 3 am close to Kanpur city at a place called Pukhrayan.
The cause of the accident is yet to be identified.
