Vyapam scam: Governor Ram Naresh Yadav 'Accused No 10'?

| | Jul 08, 2015, at 07:52 pm
New Delhi, July 8 (IBNS): Giving way to new controversy regarding the Vyapam scam, a media channel has accessed a police document that revealed that Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav had been named as "Accused No 10" in a criminal case.
According to a NDTV report, the Governor's constitutional immunity protected him from investigation.

However, many other accused named with him are in jail.

The revelations come even as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan claimed that no bigwig has been protected from being investigated in connection with scam.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will hear a case on Thursday that asks for Yadav to be removed as Governor.

Reacting to the recent developments in the scam, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh tweeted: "What is Vyapam? A shining example of what a nexus of corrupt pillars of Democracy can do to make money, save accused and eliminate dissent."

"Shouldn't be seen as one Political Party against another. Anyone who has cheated and duped innocent people should be punished," he said.

"The whole Nation is waiting for Hon Supreme Court for their decision on 9th in Vyapam. I am sure Truth would prevail," he posted.

The apex court will hear petitions seeking a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation into the  Vyapam scam on Thursday

The multi-crore scam in Madhya Pradesh has sent a shockwave across the country more because of a series of mysterious deaths related to it.

Reports said the four petitions filed in this regard included that of Congress leader Digvijaya Singh and  whistleblower Anand Rai.

The Congress said the apex court's intervention is the beginning of the justice.

The Congress has been demanding a CBI probe into the case and said it does not have any faith in the Madhya Pradesh government.

The scam involves a racket indulging in bribery and impersonation to arrange goverment services and admission to colleges.

Several high profile people, including Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav face the charge of being involved in the scam which becomes murkier with the death of about 48 people- all connected to the scam and its investigation in one way or the other- over the last two years.

All the deaths are premature and most of them took place under mysterious circumstances.
