Washington Post's sharp retort to BJP leader's dig at Jeff Bezos
New Delhi/IBNS: US daily Washington Post has issued a sharp response to BJP leader Vijay Chauthaiwale's dig at Jeff Bezos, snubbed by the government during his recent visit to India.
"Jeff Bezos doesn't tell Washington Post journalists what to write," tweeted a senior editor at the publication owned by the Amazon CEO in response to BJP leader Vijay Chauthaiwale's pose who alleged that the newspaper's editorial policy is "highly biased".
"Just to clarify: Jeff Bezos doesn't tell Washington Post journalists what to write. Independent journalism is not about charming governments. But there's no question the work of our correspondents and columnists fits within India's democratic traditions," Eli Lopez tweeted.

Mocking at Mr Bezos's "Dynamism. Energy. Democracy. #IndianCentury" post, Mr Chauthaiwale had tweeted, "Please tell this to your employees in Washington DC. Otherwise, your charm offensive is likely to be a waste of time and money.

BJP's foreign policy in-charge's tweet was seen as a swipe at The Washington Post which has published several articles criticizing the Citizenship Amendment Act and abrogation of Article 370 and restrictions imposed in Kashmir, thereafter. One such article was published under the title "India's new law may leave millions of Muslims without citizenship".
Mr Chauthaiwale had termed Washington Post's editorial policy "highly biased and agenda-driven".
The Amazon CEO, whose request for a meeting with Prime Minister was reportedly rejected a month ago, left India without meeting any top minister, reports said.
