Water diverted to Godavari from the near-full Jayakwadi dam in Nashik :Sources

Aurangabad (Maharashtra)/UNI As rain water continues to flow since the last couple of days in the  catchment areas of  upstream dams in Nashik district towards the Jayakwadi dam in district, the authorities of irrigation department  have played it safe by opening the sixteen gates of the dam to release the flooded water of 26941 cusecs per second  water into downstream of river Godavari.

The official sources said following continuous inflow from upstream dams since the last fortnight into Jayakwadi dam which was already cent per cent full, the authorities opened dam gates two weeks ago.

At present, total 26941 cusecs of water per second is flowing into downstream river including 1500 cusecs into hydro units  in the basin of Godavari river.

Jayajwadi dam having capacity of 102 TMC  supplies water to more than  250 villages ,Aurangabad, Jalna cities and three industrial estates and irrigates  1.85 lakh hectares lands in four districts of Marathwada region, they added.
