We believe all those involved in the dastardly crime will be brought to justice: Sushant Singh Rajuput's family after SC hands over probe to CBI
Delhi/Mumbai/Patna/IBNS: Hours after the Supreme Court ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the unnatural death of Sushant Singh Rajput, family members of the Bollywood actor on Wednesday said that they were hoping to get justice following the direction of the country's apex court.
"Now that the country's premier investigating agency has taken over, we believe that all those involved in the dastardly crime will be brought to justice," a statement issued by Sushant Singh Rajput's family read.
"We believe that the public trust in institutions is important. Today's development has reaffirmed our faith in India as a Robust Democracy. We love our country more than ever," the statement added.
The Rajput family has also thanked the Bihar government, all friends and well wishers who fought with them to get the CBI probe into the case.
"We thank our friends, well-wishers, media and millions of fans worldwide for their love for Sushant and support for us," they wrote in the statement. "We are particularly thankful to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for setting the wheel of justice in motion."
The top court has held the Bihar government's recommendation of a CBI probe into Sushant's death valid.
Sushant had committed suicide at his own flat in Mumbai's Bandra on Jun 14.
Though the Mumbai Police was probing into the suicide, Sushant's father KK Singh lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with Bihar Police alleging that Sushant's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty had siphoned off Rs 15 crore from his son's account and other accounts of companies floated with his investments.
As per the recommendation by the Bihar government, the death case was handed over to the CBI by the central government.
However, Rhea, who had earlier requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah for a CBI inquiry into his late boyfriend's death, wanted the case to be transferred to Mumbai Police.
The suicide has created a ripple effect with several actors and netizens calling out Bollywood biggies for encouraging nepotism, allegedly leading Sushant to commit suicide.
