Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was on Thursday hospitalised in Kolkata after she suffered a "major injury".

Mamata suffered an injury in her forehead. She was rushed to the state government-run SSKM Hospital.

Some of the pictures posted by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on X handle show she had suffered profuse bleeding.

Though the main cause of the injury is yet inconclusive, some reports claim she hit a glass showcase at her Kalighat residence.

Mamata had to undergo four stitches at the SSKM Hospital.

The Chief Minister suffered the injury after she returned from an event in South Kolkata where she inaugurated a statue of late Kolkata Mayor Subrata Mukherjee.

Several TMC leaders and Mamata's family members including TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee are with the Chief Minister.

Prime Minisrer Narendra Modi, in a post, prayed for Mamata's speedy recovery.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Sukanta Majumdar wished speedy recovery of the Chief Minister. Majumdar wrote, "Wishing CM @MamataOfficial a speedy recovery. Our prayers are with her for a quick return to good health..."

"Wishing a speedy recovery of the Chief Minister, West Bengal," Congress state chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury posted on X.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal posted on X, "Shocked to see this. Pray for ur speedy recovery Didi. God bless u."

This is the second time in a few months' time Mamata met with an injury. In January, she suffered a minor injury on her head while she was returning to Kolkata from Burdwan.

She had suffered the injury after a car reportedly entered into her convoy prompting the driver of her vehicle to put a sudden brake.
