Kolkata, Jan 21 (IBNS): A day after at least 135 leader-activists of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) were arrested for staging agitation outside Kolkata's Milan Mela ground, where the third edition of Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) is currently underway, a large number of party workers demonstrated outside the city's Alipore court on Saturday afternoon when the arrested activists were being produced.

On Friday evening, protesting against the death of two local youths during a clash between police and villagers over a power-grid installation at Bhangar in south Twentyfour Parganas district, a large number of CPI-M activists, led by  MLA Sujan Chakraborty and party leaders Kanti Ganguly, Manab Mukherjee and Nepaldeb Bhattacharya, staged demonetisation outside the  business summit venue  and blocked the Parama Island crossing.

Terming the gathering unlawful, police booked 135 protesters, including CPI-M leaders Sujan Chakraborty, Kanti Ganguly, Manab Mukherjee and Nepaldeb Bhattacharya.

Of them, 23 took bail later at night from Kolkata Police headquarter at Lalbazar.

When the remaining 112 party activists were being produced in Alipore court on Saturday, hundreds of CPI-M supporters staged demonstration there.

They also blockade a nearby road, partly disrupting traffic in the area.

A heavy police force as  deployed in the area.

However, the court has granted 'unconditional' bail to all the arrested leader-activists of the  CPI-M, according to the latest update.

Few days ago, at least two youths, including a college student, were shot dead during a skirmish between local villagers and police force over the erection of a power grid at Bhangar.
