New Delhi/IBNS: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has been named as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for the Vice President's post in the country.

The name has been picked by the BJP's parliamentary board.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda are among the board members.

After the name was announced, Modi tweeted, "Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji has excellent knowledge of our Constitution. He is also well-versed with legislative affairs.

"I am sure that he will be an outstanding Chair in the Rajya Sabha & guide the proceedings of the House with the aim of furthering national progress."

This comes after the BJP-led NDA picked former Jharkhand Governor and tribal leader Draupadi Murmu as its Presidential poll nominee.

In the number game, the BJP is set to sail through in both the contests.

If the candidates win, Murmu and Dhankhar will succeed Ram Nath Kovind and Venkaiah Naidu as the President and Vice President respectively.
