Kolkata, Dec 13 (IBNS): Three persons were killed as unidentified miscreants fired bullets upon the vehicle of a TMC lawmaker at Jaynagar under Baruipur Police District's jurisdiction in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Thursday late evening.

As many as 12 assailants reportedly fired several rounds of bullets and hurled few crude bombs aiming at the SUV of TMC MLA of Jaynagar, Biswanath Das, at a petrol pump at around 7:30 pm.

Driver of the vehicle, Babu Mollah, a local TMC leader, Saifuddin Khan, and a local resident, Amin Sardar, were seriously injured in the sudden attack.

They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where the trio was pronounced dead.

The MLA, however, was not present inside his vehicle when the incident happened and he escaped the attack unhurt.

"I think I was the main target of the attackers," Biswanath Das told IBNS.

"I heard unidentified miscreants carried out the attack that claimed three lives and I have no idea who were involved in it," Das added.

Local TMC leadership alleged that CPI-M and SUCI(C) sheltered miscreants attacked the vehicle of ruling party's MLA.

Local police, however, have initiated a probe into the incident while none has been arrested in connection with the shootout so far.
