Why play a match in Australia? Owaisi raises question after BCCI says 'no' to Pakistan-hosted Asia Cup

| @indiablooms | Oct 22, 2022, at 06:37 pm

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has questioned the Indian cricket board (BCCI)'s decision to boycott the 2023 Asia Cup to be hosted by Pakistan but play against the arch-rival in the T20 World Cup.

Owaisi has questioned why the country is not boycotting their Sunday match against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup hosted by Australia.

The Hyderabad MP said, "Why are you now playing the cricket match with Pakistan tomorrow? Nahi khel na tha. No, we won't go to Pakistan but will play with them in Australia. What is this love? Don't play with Pakistan.

"What will happen if you don't play with Pakistan? A loss of ₹2000 crore for the television? But is it more than what India matters? Leave, don't play."

The controversy broke out after Board of Control for Cricket in India or BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who is also the Asian Cricket Council president, earlier this week said India will not travel to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup in 2023.

Shah's comment had triggered a sharp response from the Pakistan Cricket Board which threatened to pull its team out of the World Cup to be hosted by India the same year.
