Will contest UP polls but party to decide seat': Yogi Adityanath

Lucknow/UNI: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said he would contest the upcoming state assembly polls but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will decide the seat from which he will contest.

This will be the first time when Adityanath will be contesting the UP Assembly polls.

He also expressed confidence that BJP would win more than 300 seats and said that the party will fight the state polls on the basis of their achievements and the works done by the double engine government in the last five years.

On Saturday, Adityanath said he has never shied away from contesting the elections and will contest from wherever the party leadership wants.

He said there is no issue of caste or communal differences during the elections this time and only the works done by the government will be highlighted in the coming polls.

The Election Commission will take the call on election dates, he said while expressing hope that the dates would be announced in the next 10 days.

The UP CM also said BJP will follow all the guidelines set by EC for the electioneering in view of the pandemic.

Replying to a question on Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav's announcement to give 300 units free electricity to a domestic consumer if voted to power in the state, the CM said: "When SP was in power between 2012-17, they could not supply power in the state except for in four districts. "

"Now, by making such an announcement, they are making a mockery of themselves," said Adityanath.

He said the caste politics in the elections was wiped out in the country in 2014 after Narendra Modi became the PM of the country.

"We have been following the mantra of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' due to which people irrespective of caste and communities support the governments," he added.

"In 2017 assembly polls, BJP had contested the polls by launching a tirade against the misrule of the SP government, but in the 2022 polls we will highlight the achievements of our government," he said, claiming that all promises made by the party in 2017 polls have been fulfilled.

The CM said that the party has launched 'Janviswas Yatra', scheduled to conclude on Monday in Lucknow, which will increase people's faith in the party and its leadership.

He also asked people to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour in the wake of rising cases.

"There is no need to panic. Hospital beds, oxygen plants and other necessary facilities are available in the state to tackle any situation," he added.
