Guwahati, Sept 24 (IBNS): Assam Finance minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, BJP does not accept the National Register of Citizens (NRC) which was published on Aug 31 by excluding over 19 lakh people.
The Assam minister further said that, BJP will tell the Supreme Court that it rejects the NRC.
While addressing a party meeting held in Karimganj on Monday, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “BJP does not believe in this NRC. We will clearly tell the Supreme Court that BJP rejects this NRC.”
“After passing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, a new NRC will be prepared in Assam once again. Those who are laughing now will have to cry,” Himanta said.
He further said that, the Centre will reintroduce the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in parliament in November next.
“The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill will table in parliament in November and a new NRC will again be prepared in Assam under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home minister Amit Shah. We will grant citizenship those who came to India because of religious persecution including Hindu Bengalis, Christians, Budhist, Jain.
In West Bengal, Union Home minister Amit Shah said that, first Citizenship Bill, then NRC. Picture abhi bhi baaki hain. Preparation for the right NRC will be possible when our people will be secured. I hope that, the entire problem will be solved in November,” the Assam minister said.
Himanta further said, “We had held a meeting in Guwahati and explained all things. We will respect the Inner Line Permit (ILP), sixth schedule provisions which are continued in different states in the North Eastern region. We will fix a cutoff date as December 31, 2014.”
“We are now trying to bring such a bill as the indigenous, tribal people wouldn’t have to fear that, this bill is against their rights,” he said.
