Kolkata/West Midnapore, May 17 (IBNS): Few hours after a local court in West Bengal's West Midnapore district awarded death sentences to seven persons for killing three women after branding them as witches, another woman was allegedly lynched on Monday night in the same district, after being branded as witch, reports said.

According to reports, a 48-year-old woman, Somnbari Tudu and her husband Suru Tudu were beaten up by local villagers at Birsinghapur village under Debra Police Station limits in West Midnapore, after being branded as witches.

Suru Tudu, somehow, managed to escape from the place, but, his wife Somnbari Tudu was beaten to death at midnight.

However, police have detained at least nine suspects in connection with the incident. The main accused are still absconding.
