Won't charge him if he can't pay : Jethmalani after Kejriwal's Rs. 3.8 crore litigation bill controversy

New Delhi, Apr 4 (IBNS) : After a controversy surrounded Arvind Kejriwal over his Government's reported attempt to foot a Rs. 3.8-crore bill for his personal legal battle from the state exchequer, lawyer Ram Jethmalani has offered to defend the Delhi Chief Minister for free if he can not afford to pay, media reports said.

"I will certainly defend him even if he can't pay, but he said 'no, I want to pay, send us the bills', so I have sent bills. If it is incumbent on me to support him and his livelihood I will support him, because he is a clean force as opposed to Arun Jaitley," the veteran lawyer has been quoted as saying.

A news channel ran a story  that  the Delhi Government seeks pay the huge litigation charges that Kejriwa, l is liable to pay for contesting a number of defamation cases, including the one filed by Union Law Minister Arun Jaitley.

The most notable  case against him is his legal battle against   Jaitley, who filed a criminal defamation suit against the Delhi CM and five other AAP leaders.

Jaitley has accused them of defaming him in a controversy regarding Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) and sought Rs 10 crore as damages.

AAP says that the Government should pay the bill because the case targets the office of the Chief Minister, and not an individual.
