Kolkata votes to elect new corporation amid violence

Amid incidents of violence and allegations of coercion, firing and booth capturing, Kolkata witnessed daylong balloting to elect a new KMC (Kolkata Municipal Corporation) on Saturday (April 18, 2015). Polling was held in 144 wards The Opposition alleged rampant violence in the polls against the ruling TMC which rubbished the charges. The Election Commission admitted they received several complaints. A sub-inspector of police also sustained bullet injury even as the Opposition alleged inaction by the police forces.
