A Ray classic viewer may also go to see a formula film in Bangla : Kharaj Mukherjee

Kolkata, Nov 23 (IBNS) Actor Kharaj Mujherjee said a Satyajit Ray film addict can also go to watch a film like 'Beder Meye Jyotsna' for different reasons if the packaging is backed up by the content.

"The popularity index of a film is not defined by its masala or arthouse quotient though such slotting has ceased to exist long back. I can say with confidence a person, having watched several cult films by Ray may also flock to the theatre for a film like say Beder Meye Jyotsna .There is no bar," Kharaj tells IBNS at the trailer launch of Black, directed by Raja Chanda.

Expanding his logic to the present days, Kharaj said, "The audience of Belaseshe will also flock to see a so-called action-packed formula film or comedy like Jamai 420 if the content is good, packaging is good and backed by powerful acting.

Coming to the point, the actor said, "We always want to deliver our best. But we must get the space and scope for dishing out clean entertainment to the audience."

"The characters as visualised in films are to be properly fitted by the actors and hence selection of characters are equally important for a film's success as well as the actor's selection of characters," Kharaj went on.

Kharaj, who affirmed he excelled in roles having Bengaliness to the core, said in Black he enacted a do-gooder simpleton called Aslam Bhai.

"It is a Muslim character and again refers to the bonhomie between different religions. The film to be released
simultaneously in Bangladesh will fill the much-needed void of reaching out to audiences on both frontiers," Kharaj said.

"It had been the tradition which somehow came to halt due to certain situations and we all watched helplessly. Thankfully that is gone and the market of Bengali films in India-Bangladesh has again been bridged," Kharaj said.

Produced by big time Bengali film producer Rana Sarkar and jointly presented by Viacom 18 and Rana's Dag Creative Media, Black also starred Soham, Bangladesh's top heroine Mimi, Rajatava Dutta, Rudranil Ghosh among others.
