A slap enough to leave husband: Trailer of Taapsee Pannu's Thappad sends out strong message

Mumbai/IBNS: Contrary to Kabir Singh director Sandeep Vanga's belief that slapping one's partner in a relationship is an emotional expression, the trailer of filmmaker Anubhav Sinha's upcoming Hindi film Thappad suggests "even a slap" can be the reason to leave a "husband".

The makers dropped the trailer of Thappad, which stars actress Taapsee Pannu, who is known for working in feisty roles since 2016 film Pink, on Friday.

The trailer shows Amu (played by Pannu) gets slapped by her husband at a party. The slap turns out to be the only reason for Amu to leave her husband, though several people try to preach her tolerance to violence.

Amid the widespread criticisms of Shahid Kapoor-starrer Bollywood's massive hit film Kabir Singh for its alleged portrayal of misogyny and violence towards woman, Vanga in an interview had said, "When you are deeply in love and deeply connected to a woman (and vice versa), if you don’t have the liberty of slapping each other, then I don’t see anything there."

Thappad is the second film where Pannu has worked with Sinha. Earlier she was the lead actor in Mulk which starred veteran actor Rishi Kapoor.

Following the release of the trailer, Pannu, who got a massive breakthrough in 2016 with Pink which starred acting legend Amitabh Bachchan, tweeted the catch-line of the film. She said, "Haan bas EK THAPPAD ..... par nahi maar sakta !"

Thappad, which is produced by Sinha and Managing Director of T-Series Bhushan Kumar. is slated to release on Feb 28.
