“#Kis-ki band bajegi†to initiate talent hunt for upcoming bands
Kolkata, Mar 14 (IBNS): It's time again Kolkata will be tuned to the rhythms of upcoming bands from Bengal.
Whatsup café, the city’s only musical eatery that provides bands and musicians to perform in front of foodies throughout the week under the banner of WhatsUpLive, launched its new initiative in collaboration with BandEdge Talent agency private limited and Asha audio on Tuesday at the roof top conference hall of the café.
#KisKiBandBajegi, as the initiative is known, aims to provide a platform for young and upcoming bands to showcase their talent and compete with others whereby the winner will ultimately get a chance to get their first ever album released by Asha Audio.
Apart from this, What’s up Café will produce music videos for them and the entire band will be managed by BandEdge Talent Agency.
The inaugural ceremony on Tuesday, musicians such as Rupam Islam (lead vocalist, Fossils), Gaurav (Gaboo) Chatterjee (Lakhichara), Somlata Acharya Chowdhury, Mahua Lahiri (director, Asha audio), Bonnie Chakraborty (Music Producer) and Kaustav Banerjee (lead Vocalist, the Grooverz) lauded the initiative.
Somlata Acharya Chowdhury described what budding musicians have to face in the initial days and encouraged them to fight all odds to fulfill their dreams.
In fact this is not the first time Kolkata is seeing a musical band talent hunt.
After the success of previous few such events, Kolkata will again get the opportunity to enjoy the flavour of bangla folk, rock music after a gap of a decade.
Gaurav Chatterjee while speaking to IBNS said, “Solidarity that should prevail among the band members and they should look to keep the group intact."
When asked about the balance between folk bands and bands with indigenous compositions, Rupam Islam said. “It’s all about experimentation and how you appeal to the masses.”
The registration link for the competition will open on March 15 and close on Mar 19.
Interested bands have to register by posting their videos in WhatsUp Café Facebook page after which the screening committee will select 10 of them.
The application criteria mentions no band can have less than two or more than five members and all have to below 25 years.
Anirban Sengupta, the brain behind the initiative, said that it’s not only about winning. Even the runners up and other finalists will get a chance to expand and create a base for themselves among music lovers.
