Canada: TIFF selects Patricia Chica among the female directors for TIFF Filmmaker Lab

Toronto, Aug 1 (IBNS): Canadian-Latina filmmaker Patricia Chica ( (“A Tricky Treat”,“Serpent’s Lullaby”), has been selected by Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) among the female directors for the prestigious TIFF Filmmaker Lab, said media reports.

TIFF Filmmaker Lab is and extremely competitive and an artistic development program of  TIFF, which is annually held during the TIFF and focuses on aspiring Canadian and international filmmakers and provides intensive learning experience to 20 emerging directors and screenwriters to facilitate further development in their creativity, artistic process, and voice.

Guided by some of the best-known people in independent cinema from around the world,  TIFF Talent Lab is designed to launch the careers of the next generation of filmmakers.

Chica’s submission of "Montreal Girls," a feature script in the advanced phase of development, together with a one minute excerpt from her acclaimed short "Morning After", got her into the highly competitive program.

"It is a tremendous honor, and I’m excited for the mentorship opportunity and to develop and advance my current projects through this excellent lab," says Patricia Chica.

"Montreal Girls," co-written with Kamal John Iskander, tells the story of Basil, a young Egyptian student who travels to Montreal to study medicine and meets two young women who alter his perceptions and inspire him to follow his innate desire to become a poet.

The team of “Montréal Girls” is attending the TIFF and open to discuss this production with Sales Agents, Talent Agents, and Financiers.

Carmen Aiello is casting out of Los Angeles.

Producers Mohamed Hefzy and Daniel Ziskind of Cairo-based production company Film Clinic (TIFF’s 2017 selection “Sheikh Jackson” and Cannes’ 2018 selection “Yomeddine”), will handle the Egypt segment of filming.

Chica has also been signed by Shoreline Management in Beverly Hills, CA, which and is now managing her career within the US and Latin American markets.

An award-winning filmmaker with over 50 hours of content to her credit, Chica specializes in auteur-driven films that feature strong characters, provocative stories, and striking visuals.

She had been named a prolific director of shorts and TV projects by Variery.

Chica's more than 300 international official selections have won her numerous awards .
