Kolkata, June 1 (IBNS): No matter how dear cricket is to Bengalis, 'football' or soccer still remains the number one sports for them, was amply proved at the recent music launch of upcoming movie "Messi", in Kolkata.

Directed by  Arnab "Riingo" Banerjee, the film is about Bengal's popular street soccer [or 'para football as it is locally knowns as] and how two brothers -- played by Ronodeep Bose and Aryann Bhowmik -- use it as a means to earn money. The younger brother, a gifted footballer, dons a jersey with Messi written on it.

"Messi" is a tale of brotherly feelings, dreams, love, and of course football.

The cast also includes new comer Aishika as well as seasoned actors Chaiti Ghoshal and Rana Mitra among others.

Eminent singers of the city were also present at the launch arranged as an Open Mic session.

Everyone present at the launch wished speedy recovery to lead actor Ronodeep Bose, who was critically injured in a bike accident.

Actor and musician Bose is the grandson of veteran Bengali star Soumitra Chattopadhyay.

Talking about friend Ronodeep, Riingo said, "The real Messi is him, bravely struggling to recover to take up the reins of life once more."

Popular singers,  Joy Sarkar, Dibyendu Mukherjee, Ujjaini Mukherjee, Gabu along with Sidhu and Vikramjit Banerjee, sang for Ronodeep.

A special song was performed by 104.8 Ishq FM.

Actor Rupsha, who, for the first time, sang in a movie, said, "I think it is my passion and love for music that gave me the courage to take this step."

The movie has already garnered nine lakh views on You Tube, which is believed  to be a record for a Bengali film.

Produced by Pradip Churiwal, "Messi" will release on June 9 in Priya Cinema.
