Toronto: Film 'Our Lady of the Nile', which has been directed by Atiq Rahimi, had its world premiere on September 13 in Scotiabank Theatre, here.

Our Lady of the Nile is written by Atiq Rahimi et Ramata Toulaye-Sy and based on “ Notre-Dame du Nil ”Scholastique Mukasonga’s book, Gallimard, 2012 and directed by Atiq Rahimi.

The plot of the story is about young girls, who are sent to Our Lady of the Nile, a prestigious Catholic boarding school perched on a hill, where they are taught to become the Rwandan elite.

In the seventies, Rwanda, much like Afghanistan, is under the absolute rule of elite, the technocrats and the leaders.

In the film, when we’re in Monsieur de Fontenaille’s house (the character is played by Pascal Greggory), old photographs and drawings of Hutus, Tutsis and Twas, all of which posing together, are seen.

The cast of the film is Virginia (Santa Amanda Mugabekazi), Gloriosa (Albina Sydney Kirenga), Immaculée (Angel Uwamahoro), Veronica (Clariella Bizimana) Modesta (Belinda Rubango Simbi), Immaculée Angel Uwamahoro and more.

Afghanistan-born, French-based novelist and filmmaker Aki Atiq Rahimi mixes historical fact mingled with scenes of magic realism.
