Rajni greets Kamal Haasan on winning French award

Bangalore, Aug 22 (IBNS): The French government has conferred their prestigious Chevalier de L'Ordre Arts et Lettres (The Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) award upon Indian actor Kamal Haasan, for his rich contribution towards his craft, reports said.

The Chevalier de L'Ordre Arts et Lettres is given to 200 artists every year.

Actor Rajnikanth, often considered as Hassan's biggest rival, congratulated his 'dear friend' after Haasan won the prestigious award.

Haasan now joins a list of elite Indians, Satyajit Ray, Shivaji Ganeshan, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Nandita Das and Aishwarya Rai, who have won the award on previous occasions.

"The French Government has kindly conferred the Chevalier award for Arts and Letters on me. On this occasion, I bow before my more deserving forerunners, Mr. Satyajit Ray and Mr. Sivaji Ganesan, who made even the common man realise the value of the Chevalier award. I thank His Excellency, the Ambassador of France in India, Mr. Alexandre Ziegler, who inimated me of this honour," Haasan, who is presently recovering from a fractured leg was quoted in the media as saying.
