Riteish Deshmukh remembers Rajiv Gandhi, calls him 'true visionary'

New Delhi/Mumbai, Aug 20 (IBNS): Actor Riteish Deshmukh on Monday remembered ex-Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary and said he was a 'true visionary'.

"Remembering Bharat Ratna Shri #RajivGandhi ji on his birth anniversary today. A Mass leader & a true visionary. Your work will forever inspire us sir.... #SadbhavnaDivas #RememberingRajiv," Riteish tweeted.

Ritesih Deshmukh's late father Vilasrao Deshmukh served two terms as the Chief Minister of the state of Maharashtra.

In his lifetime, he also served in the Union cabinet as the Minister of Science and Technology and Minister of Earth Sciences.

Born on Aug 20, 1944, Rajiv Gandhi was the seventh Prime Minister of the country, succeeding his late mother Indira Gandhi.

He was the youngest person to assume the chair of the Prime Minister at the age of 40.

He became the Prime Minister in 1984 with a majority of the Congress party but was voted out of power in 1989.

Rajiv Gandhi was the MP from Amethi constituency of Uttar Pradesh between 1981 and 1991.
