Popular singer Taylor Swift on Saturday announced postponing the concert in Rio de Janeiro due to 'extreme temperatures' in the city.

According to reports, one of her fans died shortly before her show on Friday (November 19, 2023).

The decision came as thousands of people were already at the stadium as part of her record-breaking Eras tour, BBC reported.

In her Instagram story post, the singer wrote: "The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers and crew has to and always will come first."

Brazil is currently experiencing an unprecedented heatwave which has triggered health alerts in recent days.

Authorities warned of the danger to life as it recorded a heat index, which combines temperature with humidity, of 59.3C on Friday followed by 59.7C on Saturday, BBC reported.

Fan dies

According to reports, Ana Clara Benevides Machado, 23, sought help from authorities at the stadium after he felt unwell.

She was transferred to a hospital later where she died.
