Success doesn’t guarantee peace: Vishal Dadlani after Arijit Singh announces playback retirement

| @indiablooms | Jan 29, 2026, at 09:42 pm

Singer and composer Vishal Dadlani has weighed in on Arijit Singh’s shock decision to retire from playback singing, saying the move is a reminder that professional success does not always translate into personal peace or contentment.

In a reflective post on Instagram, Dadlani described Arijit’s announcement as a moment of introspection for both artists and audiences. Without naming anyone directly, he wrote that wealth, power and fame often fail to bring inner fulfilment, urging people to live authentically and truthfully.

“Success doesn’t guarantee peace or contentment. Riches and power don’t guarantee safety,” Dadlani wrote. “Life is strange, life is short. Don’t waste a single moment lying to yourself about yourself. Don’t try to be what somebody else said you must be.”

The composer concluded the note with a simple message: “Live fully,” adding that “all we truly have is the thin sliver of ‘now’ that exists between memory and hope.”

Arijit Singh’s decision has sent shockwaves through the Indian music industry.

On Tuesday, the singer announced via Instagram that he would not be taking up any new playback singing assignments, calling time on a career that has defined Hindi film music for over a decade.

“Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners,” Arijit wrote. “I am happy to announce that I am not going to be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”

Several musicians and industry colleagues have since responded with messages of admiration and understanding. Singer-composer Armaan Malik said Arijit’s decision reflected an inner calling rather than professional fatigue.

“The soul knows when it’s time to change direction,” Malik wrote. “What’s being offered no longer feeds its highest calling. I trust the current and the grace guiding it.”

Arijit Singh’s retirement marks the end of an era for Bollywood playback singing, with fans and peers alike grappling with the sudden absence of one of the industry’s most influential voices.
