Mumbai/IBNS: Vicky Kaushal starrer Chhaava, which is based on 17th century Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has become the biggest Hindi film opener in 2025.

The film has collected Rs. 31 crore on the first day since its release on February 14.

This is also Vicky's biggest opener as a lead actor.

The previous biggest Hindi opener in 2025 was Akshay Kumar starrer Sky Force which earned Rs. 15.3 crore.

Speaking about working on the film where he portrayed the Marathi ruler, Vicky earlier said, " I feel so blessed to have got such a role. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity where one literally gets to play a God. I come from Maharashtra where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj are not viewed just as warriors but as God."

"When I was offered the film, I was scared initially because I am aware of the sentiments associated with Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. But the team took a lot of effort for about four years to bring this film out as authentically, unapologetically and as grandly as possible," the actor added.

Chhaava, which is directed by Laxman Utekar, co-stars Rashmika Mandanna in the lead.
