Waiting for the right script to work on OTT: Arpita Chatterjee

Senior Bengali actor Arpita Chatterjee is playing a role in a love triangle in Sheiladitya Moulik's Hridpindo which releases in the theatres Friday. India Blooms correspondent Souvik Ghosh catches up with Chatterjee in a candid conversation

Tell us about your character in this film.

My character is Arja, a professor and a married woman. She has a very happy-go-lucky life. Suddenly she meets with an accident and gets injured in her head. The injury leads her to forget her actual age and she loses all memory of the last 20 years. That's the conflict with which she lives. The external and internal age of the woman get completely different.

How was your experience on the shooting floor?

Wonderful because I had like-minded people. Shaheb (Shaheb Chatterjee) is a very old friend of mine. Though this is my first work with Sheila (Shieladitya Moulik, director), I am in a great comfort zone with him. Me, Shaheb and Sheila have bonded well because we have connected musically. We used to dine and sing together as a ritual at the end of the day's shooting.

The film shows Arja being transported to her teenage days. What kind of memories do you have as a teenager?

My teenage was always busy because I had started working from a very young age in films. I had started working as a model from class 9. My teenage time was always busy with shooting, studies, and singing.

Singing has remained a very integral part of your life.

Of course. I am doing a musical solo called My Name is Jaan which is still on. We are launching its Hindi version in the month of July. Since I am doing that show, I will have to continue singing in any way.

Conventionally in a love triangle, extramarital affairs are shown with much guilt. Do you think that narrative has been shattered over the years?

Of course because the society and mindset (of people) have changed. Film is nothing alien but a reflection of the current society and people. So that's how it is.

How is your entrepreneurship going on?

In Delhi, I have set up a production house through which I am producing contents in Hindi.

How soon can we see you on OTT? Also you have a production house.

My production house is not to exhibit my talent. I wear a different hat there. As far as OTT is concerned, I am waiting for the right script.
