Amateur golfers tee off at BMW Golf Cup International 2015 in Kolkata

Kolkata, Oct 4 (IBNS) The BMW Golf Cup International 2015, an exclusive golf event for BMW owners, on Saturday at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club in Kolkata, saw amateurs golfers from Eastern India take on their opponents to set up a berth for the national finals.

India being one of the forty-two countries to participate in the forthcoming BMW Golf Cup International 2015 world finals is currently hosting its regional qualifying rounds. With fourteen venues selected for the fifteen qualifying rounds, the national final in scheduled for Nov 28, 2015.

Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India said, “It is with great pride that we introduce BMW Golf Cup International 2015 in Kolkata. The world of amateur golf in India is witnessing progressive development and exemplifies the advancement and legacy of the sport in this country. We hope to see great success from this year’s participants and are excited to host BMW Golf Cup International which will attract not just our customers and prospects but also other patrons of the game.”

As a part of BMW Golf Cup International 2015, BMW India will also conduct Golf Clinics in all 14 cities. Conducted by experts, Golf Clinics will serve as an introduction to golf for the participants. Participants will be able to practice and take professional advice to get a first impression of the game. BMW dealerships will organize 8 – 10 Golf Clinics per city for the customers.

Speaking on the Kolkata chapter, Charchit Mishra, Director Principal, OSL Prestige said, “BMW Golf Cup International is an excellent platform for golfers to compete and enhance their skills. We are thrilled with the response at the Kolkata tournament. BMW Golf Cup International also presents us with a great opportunity to engage with our customers in a joyous and relaxed atmosphere.”

Lakhi Swain, who won the ladies regional championship and qualified for the national final, told IBNS: “It’s a great feeling. I am confident of winning the nationals.”

Swain, who hails from Bhubaneswar, a city in the Indian state of Odisha, is a member of Bhubaneswar Golf Club.

“I have recently won a tournament in Jakarta, in September. I have been playing golf for the last ten years now,” she said.

The BMW Golf Cup International 2015 has three categories, A (for handicaps up to 12), B (for handicaps 13 – 28) and Ladies Category (for handicaps up to 28).
