Messi's soft penalty to the left corner was pushed out by Brazil's goalkeeper Jefferson.
Brazil team was a mixture of youth and experienced players with both Kaka and Robinho getting a place in the side.
Brazil played the match under coach Dunga who replaced Luiz Felipe Scolari.
