Canada gets eliminated from Women's World Cup after Australia's 4-0 win

Melbourne/IBNS: Canada were eliminated from the FIFA Women's World Cup after losing to Australia.

The seventh-ranked Canadians, who could have moved to the round of 16 by either a draw or win, soon found themselves with the loss.

The 10th-ranked Matildas wasted little time to win by moving on to the tournament's knockout round.

In the worst game in recent years with its worst finish at the Women's World Cup since it went winless in 2011, Canada was forced to go home after three games and finished third in a tough Group B with a 1-1-1.

Steph Catley of Australia scored the fourth and final goal making her team win the FIFA Women's World Cup Group B match against Canada's Jessie Fleming  at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on Monday in Melbourne, Australia.
