Fake news on Sanath Jayasuriyas death circulates on social media, cricketer asks fans not to share it
Colombo, May 27 (IBNS): Fake news regarding the deaths of celebrities have often hit the social media like a storm and this time it was the turn of former Sri Lankan captain Sanath Jayasuriya to face a similar situation.
A 'fake news' circulated on the social media where it was said that the cricketer passed away after meeting with an accident in Canada.
Sanath himself took on Twitter to confirm that it was a 'fake' news and asked people to avoid sharing it.
Sanath said he did not visit Canada is recent times.
"Please disregard fake news by malicious websites regarding my health and well being. I am in Srilanka and have not visited Canada recently.Please avoid sharing fake news," Sanath tweeted.

Indian spinner R Ashwin also reacted to the news and tweeted: "Is the news on Sanath Jayasuriya true?? I got a news update on what's app but see nothing here on Twitter!!"

He later realized that it was not true and informed his fans that it was nothing else than a 'fake news'.

Sanath is considered as one of the best batsmen in limited overs format of the game.
Sanath is the only player to score over 12,000 runs and capture more than 300 wickets in One Day Internationals.
He had played a crucial role in Sri Lanka's World Cup victory in 1996.
