French Ligue 1: PSG lose to Montpellier by 3-2

Paris, May 1 (Xinhua): Paris Saint-Germain suffered their third straight road defeat in Ligue 1 after losing to Montpellier 3-2 on Tuesday.

The two sides ended 1-1 into halftime through two own goals. After Angel Di Maria put PSG in front again, Andy Delort and Souleymane Camara scored late goals to give the hosts a must win in their contention for next season's European competition ticket.

PSG, who lost to Rennes in French Cup final three days ago, went ahead in the 12th minute, when Juan Bernat's left-flank cross was diverted by Ambroise Oyongo into his own net.

But PSG conceded an own goal themselves eight minutes later. Damien Le Tallec's header from a Florent Mollet free-kick richocheted off the shoulder of Presnel Kimpembe, who also scored an own goal against Rennes.

PSG's veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon registered several high-quality saves afterwards in the first half.

Montpellier had an upper hand after the restart, but PSG took on Di Maria's goal for their superior position again. The Argentinian cleverly spinned past Buffon's counterpart Benjamin Lecomte to send the ball into an empty goal in the 62nd minute. Eight minutes later, his teammate Julian Draxler saw a shot cleared by Pedro Mendes on the line.

After that scary moment, Montpellier managed a late comeback in the final minutes. Delort was released by Mollet's first-time pass through a counter-attack to fire home in the 80th minute, and Camara made the most of Leandro Paredes' mistake to hit the target with a low shot with five minutes from time.

Montpellier moved up to fifth at the table, five points adrift Saint-Etienne, while PSG had to swallow their fourth defeat in five matches in all competitions.

Rennes will take on Monaco in the final match of the 34th round on Wednesday.
