Gauhati University hosts seminar on women's sports as a profession: Focus on 'Impetus and Impediments'

Guwahati/IBNS: The Gauhati University NSS Cell recently organized a seminar titled "Sports as a profession for women: Impetus and Impediments," sponsored by the National Commission for Women.

Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, Director of Students' Welfare & Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, GU, delivered the welcome address, reported Northeast Now.

During the event, Dr. Kakati emphasized the importance of sports as a profession for women, especially at a time when there are numerous job opportunities available in both the government and private sectors.

He also emphasized the need to promote sports as a career and remove obstacles to achieving excellence in sports.

The seminar's chief guest, Dr. Sharmistha Banerjee, a professor at Calcutta University's Department of Business Management, spoke about the importance of sports as a profession for women and discussed its impetus and impediments with the participants.

Dr. Polly Vauquline, a professor at Gauhati University's Department of Women's Studies, also addressed the participants and stressed the importance of women's participation in sports and taking it up as a profession.

The event was attended by about 100 female participants, including several state-level and national-level sportswomen.
