Giannis Antetokounmpo Looks to Prove He Is the World's Best

Heading into the NBA Playoffs, Giannis Antetokounmpo was tasked with not just helping his team win postseason games, but with proving that everything that he did in the regular season could be replicated in the playoffs. And after a positive start to the playoffs, the man known as the Greek Freak is proving more than that, as he could very well be the best athlete in the world right now.

Antetokounmpo started his team's postseason run with a 24 point and 17 rebound performance as the Milwaukee Bucks steamrolled the Detroit Pistons in the first game of the playoffs. But his performance was so much more than what showed up in the box score, as he was able to throw in flashy dunks and get to any spot on the floor he wanted. Giannis said it best when he described himself as unstoppable during his team's statement win to open the playoffs.

This star turn for a player who only discovered this level of play this season comes at a time where some of the best athletes in the world are declining. LeBron James is losing the inevitable battle with age, while football stars like Messi and Ronaldo aren't quite at the peak of their powers any longer either. And with the likes of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic not playing in as many tennis tournaments as they used to, the mantle for Giannis to become the biggest star in sports is there for the taking.

Of course, if Antetokounmpo is going to be considered one of the biggest stars in all of sports, he is going to need to win championships. This season, the Bucks are considered a serious contender to do just that, with the latest basketball odds to win the NBA Finals putting them behind only the Golden State Warriors in the list of favorites to lift the most prestigious trophy in their sport.

What makes what Giannis is doing even more impressive is that he is doing it seemingly against the current of the present day NBA. While most teams are prioritizing the three point shot, Antetokounmpo is able to be great by just getting to the rim and making two point plays. He barely makes a quarter of his three point attempts, but doesn't need to worry about threes when he can get to the basket as effortlessly as he does.

Whether or not Giannis will be able to use two point shots to lead the Bucks to a title might be up for debate. After all, the Golden State Warriors can bury any team in a barrage of three point shots to the point where the math just isn't in the favor of a two point shooting team. But the Bucks have plenty of shooters to go with the Greek Freak, who will need to hold up their ends of the bargain if the team is going to have success at the highest levels.

Win or lose, though, there is no question that Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the most fun athletes to watch in sports right now and that he could very well be the best athlete going at this time.
