17 year old Gurkirat was on song from the start, when he rolled in a birdie putt on the Par 4 1st hole. A dropped stroke on the 3rd brought him back to even-par before he made consecutive birdies to go two-under for the day through 5 holes. He back to even-par when he made mistakes on the 6th and 7th holes for a bogey each and went out after a front nine 36. The Tolly golfer began the back nine with another birdie on the 10th but another set of bogeys on the 13th, 14th and 17th had him come in at a gross of two-over 74 and lead by 3 strokes at the end of round 1.

Sandeep Kumar Yadav who leads familiar foe Rajib Ali by two strokes by carding three-over 75 again dominates Category C.
