Kolkata/IBNS: Days after the 7-wicket defeat to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have roared back to victory, defeating the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 8 wickets with 26 balls to spare at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.

The 120-run unbeaten partnership between KKR batters Philip Salt and captain Shreyas Iyer helped Kolkata to finish the match in just 15.4 overs and threw KL Rahul's Lucknow out of the game.

KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss of their second home match and opted to bowl first against LSG.

Batting first, LSG scored 161 for the loss of 7 wickets as the team managed to score just 17 runs in the last 12 balls, even after a successful 18-run 18th over.

Nicholas Pooran scored the highest 45 runs (32 balls) for LSG, while skipper KL Rahul scored 39 runs of 27 balls.

For KKR, Mitchell Starc picked 3 wickets for 28 runs in his 4-over spell, while Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakaravarthy and Vaibhav Arora took one wicket each.

Chasing 162, Kolkata had a great start as KKR openers, Philip Salt and Sunil Narine, scored 22 runs in the first over. LSG bowler Shamar Joseph, in his debut match, gave 10 extra runs in the very first over with two no balls, two wide balls, one leg bye and one bye run.

The LSG pacer gave 47 runs in his 4-over spell with three no and three wide balls. However, he failed to pick any wicket.

Philip Salt scored the highest 89 runs (47 balls) for Kolkata, while KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer scored 38 runs off 38 balls. Both the KKR batters finished the game unbeaten with a crucial 120-run partnership off 76 balls.

However, Sunil Narine did not have a great game today. He got out scoring only 6 runs off 6 balls.

For LSG, Mohsin Khan claimed 2 wickets for 29 runs in his spell.

Philip Salt won the Man of the Match award for his match-winning knock.

KKR co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was present at the Eden Gardens here today to cheer his team.

KKR will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) at their home venue, the Eden Gardens, on Tuesday (Apr 16), while LSG will play the Chennai Super Kings on Apr 19.
