Mumbai, Apr 30 (IBNS) Indian opening batsman Murali Vijay has been named the new captain of the Kings XI Punjab franchise in the cash- rich Indian Premiere League.

The Punjab team have stripped former captain David Miller of the captaincy.

However issuing a statement the team said that Miller continues to be a strong player for them.

"David Miller continues to be an integral part of the team and is a very strong player of the squad," KXIP said in a statement.

Speaking about his stint, Miller was quoted in the media as saying, "It's been an interesting three weeks. I've learnt a heap load and it's something I've always wanted to do."

The South African added, "To have the opportunity at a big stage like this has been really good experience. I've actually enjoyed it more and more as I've gone on."

Miller also said that he is comfortable while relinquishing his duty.

"There's a lot more on the plate mentally; you've just got to be tuned in every single ball in the field - what you want to do, tactics, this and that - there's a lot going on. But like I said, feeling more comfortable and I'm just trying to learn as much as I can as I go along and be nice and attacking as well," he said.

The Punjab side have lost five of the six matches they have played so far in this year's tournament and are currently placed at the bottom in the points table.
