IPL: Virat's sublime form aides in Bangalore victory, beat KXIP by 81 runs

Bangalore, May 19 (IBNS) A belligerent Virat Kohli, in the form of his life, raced past all odds to post yet another scintillating hundred, as the Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kings Eleven Punjab by 81 runs here on Thursday.

The KXIP batsmen managed 120 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 14 overs, before rain decided to play spoilsport once again.

Kohli (113) posted his fourth century in the ongoing edition of IPL, equaling Chris Gayle's record of scoring four T20 hundreds in a season.

The big Jamaican, who had shown promise and glimpses of his destructive self, finally delivered something big, as he went hammer and tongs to score a 32 ball 73.

In a rain-truncated game (15 overs each), asked to bat first, Gayle and Kohli forged a 147-run partnership off 11 overs to set the stage for a big total.

Gayle hit eight sixes and four boundaries as compared the similar sixes and 12 boundaries by his skipper, who played 50 balls.

Walking in at number three, AB de Villiers failed to trouble the scorers, as he was dragged one down to his stumps, losing his wicket to compatriot Kyle Abbott.

Lokesh Rahul played a cameo as he chipped in with a six-ball 16, to help his side accumulate 211 runs for the loss of three wickets.

For KXIP, Sandeep Sharma, Kyle Abbott and Axar Patel picked up a wicket each.

After their batsmen provided the goods, the RCB bowlers too joined the party as they picked wickets at regular intervals to retard the run flow in the Punjab innings.

Apart from skipper Murali Vijay (16) and wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha (24), the others lacked intent as their innings folded dramatically.

Yuzvendra Chahal picked up four wickets for 25 runs, while Sreenath Arvind and Shane Watson ended with a brace each.

Kohli was adjudged the man of the match.
