Dhaka, Mar 1 (IBNS): Virat Kohli smashed a heroic 56 runs knock to help India beat Sri Lanka by five wickets in a Asia Cup match here on Tuesday.

Restricting Sri Lanka at 138 for nine, India reached 142 runs by losing five wickets.

Kohli smashed seven boundaries in his knock.

Suresh Raina (25) and Yuvraj Singh (35) made important contributions with their willows.

Experienced Nuwan Kulasekara picked up two wickets for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka earlier posted 138 for the loss of nine wickets against India in an Asia Cup encounter here on Tuesday.

Indian bowlers bowled tight and kept taking wickets at regular intervals which did not allow Sri Lanka to escalate the innings.

Chamara Kapugedera  remained the top scorer for the side with his 30.

He hit three boundaries in the knock.

Milinda Siriwardana  hammered one boundary and a six to score 22 runs off 17 balls.

R Ashwin, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have picked up two wickets each.
