Mary Kom dedicates Gold to country, third son
Mary Kom beat Kazakhstan's Zhaina Shekerbekova to lift the gold in the flyweight final. This is the golden Indian girl and Olympian's best finish at the Asian Games.
Speaking to media after the win, an elated Mary said "I always told them just let me concentrate in the training, practice."
She said "when I get medal people say super but if I do not win no one will remember me."
"I dedicate to my third son Prince, to the whole of the country," said Mary, a mother of three.
Mary Kom, on whom now a film has been made with Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra playing her life and struggles in reel life, is a five-time World Amateur Boxing champion, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships.
"Magnificent Mary", as she is called in India, is the only Indian woman boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, competing in the flyweight (51 kg) category and winning the bronze medal.
