Olympics: Mary, Sarita fail to qualify

New Delhi, May 21 (IBNS): Indian boxing dreams at the upcoming Rio Olympics received a blow when MC Mary Kom and Asian Games bronze-medallist L Sarita Devi could not qualify for the games on Saturday.

Both the Indian boxers went down in their respective second round bouts of the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships.

Sarita (60kg) was defeated 0-3 by Victoria Torres in her clash.

Shocking her fans, MC Mary Kom failed to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics  after the Indian iconinc boxer was defeated in her pre-quarterfinal bout at the AIBA Women’s World Championships. In the 51kg category clash, she was defeated 0-2 by Germany’s Azize Nimani.

Participants needed to reach the semi-finals of the event to qualify for the Rio games.

Mary had won bronze medal in Olympics in 2012.
